  3. I have chosen to read a 338 pg book called The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate. This book was written by Jacqueline Kelly and it explores the life of a young girl living in the late 1800s. She falls in love with the nature and animals in Texas and observes them constantly. Her entire life and view on natural forces changes when she is introduced to Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. This book explores the theory and the impact it has on the lives of ordinary people. Some people are frightened by the theories, while some are tremendously encouraged. I chose this book because I've always found evolution thrilling and I'm studying it in Biology currently. I identify greatly with the main character and find my opinions of evolution changing drastically as I read.

  5. The book I have chosen to read is "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult. This book has about 448 pages in total. This book puts the reader into the different characters shoes to see everyones point of view which I am so amused by. There is a 13 year old girl named Anna she has a sister, Kate, who has Lukemia and has been donating her blood, bone mero and things like that to keep her sister, Kate, alive. It shows the differnt frustation that each character goes through on this journey. It was recommened by Celina in my class, I was automatically hooked on it by her presentation and her summary so I looked into it and so far I have enjoyed it! Thanks Celina :)

  6. I chose the book, The Missing Revealed, by Margaret Peterson. There are 424 pages in the book. The Missing Revealed is about a brother and a sister. The sister is taken by a famous pilot over 80 years ago. The whole book series is tied with history and people from the past. I chose this book mostly because the Eiffel Tower was on the cover and I like Paris, but also because the main characters travel back in time. Since I haven't read all of the books that are in the series before this one, it makes the book very confusing. The Missing Revealed is the seventh book in the series and that is what makes the book challenging.

  8. For this quarter’s Independent Reading book, I chose to read The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. It is 488 pages long and takes place a bit after around present time. There is a disease called Idiopathic Adolescent Acute Neurodegeneration (IAAN) that starts to pop up among people of the ages 10 to 17. Most children die because of this disease, and the ones that do survive are shipped off to be researched. They are then stuck in camps where they are basically separated from the rest of society. This is because those who survive IAAN have telekinetic abilities and are deemed unsafe to be with so-called normal people. I chose this book because it mixes science up into the story. The title also piqued my curiosity because it’s very mysterious and cryptic.

  9. I am reading a book called "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. It is 444 pages long. I chose to read it because my mom has read it and said it is really good. It has more than 400 pages and it sounds interesting because it talks about the struggles of slaves.

  15. I chose the book "In Darkness" by Nick Lake. This book has 341 pages and I've been clinging to every word on those pages. In the book you follow Shorty, a small Hatian boy stuck in a hospital that was destroyed in an earthquake. You follow his thoughts, and you see lots of short stories from the Hatian culture. The revolution, and other things like that. You also follow his story of how his sister was taken away at a young age and his father was killed. The book is not as much about him being stuck in a hospital as it is about other events. I chose this book because I saw it on tons of top 10 reading lists for young adults.

There are almost no humans left not the earth and Cassie and her friends have to decide if they wait out winter or go out and find other survivors and battle the "others" who are wanting to kill them.

  18. I chose to read "The Lost World" by Michael Crichton. It is 393 pages, but I read the first one to make up the final 7 pages. It is the sequel to Jurassic Park. This book is about a scientist named Doctor Levine who goes missing on Isla Sorna, also known as Site B. Ian Malcolm and Sarah Harding go to rescue him. What Levine does not know is that Ian was a part of the original disaster of Jurassic Park. I chose to read this book because I enjoyed the first one, so I thought that I would enjoy this one. 26. The book I chose to read this quarter is Emma by Jane Austen. It has 453 pages. It is about a young woman named Emma Woodhouse living in the early 19th century. She is well off and lives with her father in HIghbury, England. She enjoys matchmaking, and has made several successful matches. However, when she tries to match a new friend with the local priest, Emma discovers that she is not as good at matchmaking as she thought. The book is about Emma learning about love, and in the process, she falls in love with an unexpected someone. I chose this book because my family and I have fallen in love with the BBC version of Emma. She has a charming, witty character, but she is also flawed, so that makes it easy to relate to her. Also, my mom and her best friend are "Austen Addicts," so they've been pushing me to read more of Austen. I predict I will really enjoy this novel.

  46. I have made the choice to read a 485 page book called "City of Bones" by Cassandra Clare. I have never read this book, but many different people have recommended it to me, because of the book's exhilarating story of action, power, and love. From what I have read so far, they are correct.
This entertaining story is centered around Clary Fray, who lives with her single mother and guy friend in New York City. Clary has one friend, Simon, who secretly has a crush on her.
At the beginning of the book, Clary sees a man suspiciously walk into a restricted room. She asks Simon about the man, but he just looks at her blankly, because he didn't see a man. Either Clary is going crazy, or the man is... invisible. She has been seeing crazy things lately, but no one else seems to see them. Then, Clary witnesses something that a teenager should never witness. She saw someone murdered-but it was not a regular death. The boy murdered just disappeared after he died. Curious, she asked the (cute) murderer why the boy disappeared. "Shadowhunter." he responds.
Clary later discovers that she may also be a Shadowhunter, which is a magical being that hunts and kills demons. This could be the reason why she sees stuff that others don't.
The rest of the story is about Clary's adventure as she learns the art of Shadowhunting, and of an arising villain... Valentine.

In this epic action packed seres a brother and sister Kendra and Seth live on a magical preserve called fablehaven. This magical preserve is home to many magical creatures that need to be kept captive there or chaos will break loose. However, this is not the only magical sanctuary there many others just like it all around the world. Each of these magical preserves contain mysterious artifacts that each have a unique power. The powerful diversity of each one of these artifacts can be combined to create a key to release the most powerful demons in the world. To make up for the other 78 pages notin the book I will start on the book The Bobbsey Twins In the Country by Laura Lee Hope. This book is about twins named Cathy and Kelly who were kid napped on their third birthday party. Their parents are so close to finding them but are missing the finale piece to the puzzle.
