Independent Reading Project
Here are your options for your independent reading (AR) project. Remember, the main purpose of this assignment is for me to assess your reading comprehension. However, I also want you to be creative and have fun with this! Feel free to email me with suggestions not listed here. Please keep in mind that ALL written projects must be typed, along with your summary.
1. Write a poem about your book. There aren't really any rules with this. The poem may illustrate one of the many themes of the book or address one of the conflicts. It might paint a picture of one of the characters or contrast oppositions in the book. It doesn't need to fit any particular structure and it most definitely doesn't need to rhyme. Just start writing and see what you create! Of course, the poem should be long enough to show reading comprehension. Please type this.
2. Create a children's book. You will basically rewrite your book in simpler terms and use illustrations to help. Feel free to use metaphors and other forms of imagery to tell your story. You must have a minimum of 5 pages to complete the entire plot diagram (introduction, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution).
3. Rewrite the ending. You may choose to rewrite the ending of your book. You will need to include enough information in this final chapter to show that you have read and understand the book and to give the reader enough information to understand your new conclusion. Please type this.
4. Illustrate your novel. Choose a character, a chapter, or a theme from the book to portray through art. You may complete a drawing, painting, sculpture, or any other form of art. Remember, I must be able to assess your reading comprehension through your project. Type up a brief summary of your book.
5. Create a movie trailer or a scene from the book. This can be done with real footage or with animations. Remember, I must be able to assess your reading comprehension through your project.
Remember, you may not complete the same project as last quarter. Also, be sure to put lots of effort into this. Be creative and have fun!

As of now, I am planning on writing a poem about my book. My book is Reached by Allie Condie and I think it would make a great poem. It has an ongoing love story and lots of action to fill the void. I love poetry so I think it would be fun to create my poem.

I think I want to rewrite the ending of my book or do a drawing to represent it. There is a lot of drama in my book and I think it would be fun to take the drama differently. And if I do the picture I could portray the book and characters how I saw it.
ReplyDeleteRight now I am planning on rewriting the ending of my book. The book I am reading is "The infinite sea" which is the second book in the series. I want to rewrite the ending because the ending to the book was probably the worst ending to a book I have ever read and I am seriously considering the possibility that the author might have been intoxicated while finishing the book. So thats the plan and I am confident that I can rewrite a better ending than the original....author.

ReplyDeleteFor my project I have chosen to use items to represent key elements in my book. The items I have chosen will make the students want to know more not just about the book itself but also the events leading up to the elements described by the item. The items are a good and fun way to get the main idea into perspective. This book is one that keeps you wondering and on the edge of your seat. By choosing this project I believe it will convince the students to read this book.

ReplyDeleteThe book I read is called "The Hunt For Jade Dragon" by Richard Paul Evans. This book is actually the fourth book in an amazing series. I've decided to make a model of an important building from the book. The building is called a starxcource plant. This building is where a lot of the story takes place. the building is going to look like a prison and have high security. After all it used to be a prison. Hopefully it will look like cool so people will want to read the book.
I am reading the book "In Darkness". In the book, the main character, Shorty, is stuck in a hospital that was broken down. He is in complete darkness and can't see anything. However, he feels the things around him and gives vivid descriptions of how he thinks they look based on how they feel. I want to make a 3D model of the room he is stuck in, based on the descriptions he gives.

ReplyDeleteI read "Belle" which is a remaking of the story "Beauty and the Beast." For now, I am planning on doing a drawing/painting of the main character, Belle. In the book, Belle feels she is not living up to her name, which means "Beautiful." She thinks that she is not beautiful at all compared to her older sisters, who are stunningly gorgeous. But throughout the story, she learns to see with her heart instead of seeing with her mind, which makes her very beautiful on the inside. In my drawing/painting, I am planning on doing a closeup of Belle's face and I want to capture her inner beauty and sweetness.
ReplyDeleteI read The Guardian by Gerald N. Lund. I would like to make a model of an important thing in my book or make a movie trailer for my book. I think that either of these would be really fun activities to do with my book.
ReplyDeleteI am reading "The Help" right now as my book. It is based of the 60's where black women raised white women's children. I plan on doing an art project of my book. I would like to draw a picture of some of the main characters. I think this would illustrate the emotion of the characters as they lived as slaves.
ReplyDeleteI read "The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate" which is a story about a developing naturalist. She experiences an interesting upbringing full of prejudice and different life styles and views. It's a very interesting story that I enjoyed very much. I plan on rewriting the ending because I can see the story developing in a different direction.
ReplyDeleteI read the book "I Am Number Four". I am going to rewrite the ending of this book. The end of this book is filled with action and many unexpected turns so I think it will be fun to come up with a new conclusion.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading "Emma" by Jane Austen. I have decided to do my project on a Prezi. I love Prezis because they are fun and unique versions of PowerPoints. Also, they are a great visual tool for showing connections between ideas.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. I am planning on making a picture to illustrate a scene of a character in the book. I hope to have a fun time doing this. I want to be able to try something that I usually don't prefer to do.
ReplyDeleteFor my Independent reading I read The "Warrior Heir" by Cinda Williams Chima. For my project I am planning on doing an art project. With my art project I am going to illustrate some of the important objects in my book. I am also going to illustrate some of the main characters. With these illustrations I will write why they are important in the story along with what they are and represent in the story.
ReplyDeleteI have read the book "Insurgent" by Veronica Roth. I have decided to write a poem about the book. I am not sure how I will write it yet. I am hoping to be able to display one of the character's personality, probably the main character Tris or I might decide to do four.
ReplyDeleteFor my AR project, I have made the decision to act out a movie trailer. I am very excited for this project, because I believe that a movie trailer will portray the action and emotions that take place in the book. I will put a lot of the trailer's focus mostly on two of the main characters.

ReplyDeleteFor this quarter’s Independent Reading book, I read The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. For my project, I will probably do some type of movie or movie trailer. This allows others to more easily connect with the characters of the book.

I Decided the book I have chosen wasn't receiving the recognition I feel it deserves, as it is ART. ART I say! The book I have chosen is Green eggs and Ham by the incredible Dr. Suess
ReplyDeleteThe project that I decided to do for my book "Winger" is to rewrite the ending of the book. I think this would be a good project to do since the ending of my book is a bad ending to the book.
ReplyDeleteI plan to write a poem about my book for this quarter's independent reading project. The book I read is Little Women. I may be able to get some inspiration from examples of poetry already in the book (Jo, a character, was a writer and some of the poetry she published is in the book).
ReplyDeleteThe book I am currently reading is "Keys to the demon prison" by Brandon Mull. This book is book five in the Fablehaven series. The independent reading project I plan on doing for this quarter is writing a poem. I think that writing poem will help the audience draw a easy connection to the characters and my story without going into to much detail. Also its a fun and creative way to tell the story.

ReplyDeleteFor my Independent Reading project I chose the book I read Delirium by Lauren Oliver. And for my project I want to illustrate my book because I wanted to try something that would test me and I guess how well I understood what I read.
ReplyDeleteFor my project I have decided to take the artistic route and I believe will be a good challenge for me. I read "13 Little Blue Envelopes" by Maureen Johnson and the book is about a girl named Virginia, (Ginny) and her summer adventure exploring Europe. I plan on drawing some of her scenes and situations in all sorts of the fun and foreign places she encountered!

I think it should be a good challenge considering the book takes place in the future. I hope I can do a good job and I am very excited to try this out.
ReplyDeleteI read the book The Schorch Trials. A majority of this book is located in a massive city that is falling apart. I am going to make a sculpture of the city.
ReplyDeleteI am going to write a poem about my book. My poem will probably illustrate the importance of love and the effects of the lack of love, since that it the main theme and conflict in my book. I think that it will turn out really inspiring, and I'm really excited!
ReplyDeleteI have chosen to write a poem. The poem will focus on the two main characters that are facing almost the same conflict, in some cases. I see some similarities and differences between the two girls as I read, but creating this poem will allow me to dig deeper into both of their situations. I'm actually really excited to write a poem!
ReplyDeleteI am going to make a sculpture of a tower in my book. The tower has a couple of tiers. Each tier gets smaller than the previous one. Each space that isn't cornered by another tier was used for gardening only.
ReplyDeleteI am going to do an art project. I have not further decided how or which part it will be in my book but I have an idea of what it would symbolize. A few of the main characters in the book are gifted with different powers that resemble electricity so I will be trying to tie that in for sure.
